How to file your Homestead Exemption in DFW
Dallas County, Collin County, Tarrant County, and Denton County
If you purchased a home as your primary residence in 2018, then you have between
January 1st and April 30th to file your residential homestead exemption. This
exemption essentially removes part of your home’s value from taxation and lowers
the amount in taxes you pay. It saves you money, so take a few minutes to file!
A Texas Driver’s License or ID card is required, and the address on your
identification must match the property for which you are filing the exemption. You
can find the list of DPS offices by clicking the link below if you need to update your
address.

For some counties, a copy of your vehicle registration receipt or a utility bill will also
be required.
Happy Filing!!!
